Dr. James Zuckerman Endorses Mindi

I am happy to announce that, Representative Mindi Messmer, Congressional Candidate for CD-1, graduated from Georgetown University with a Master’s of Science Degree in Clinical and Translational Science on Friday. I congratulate Mindi on her continued education which benefits the citizens of New Hampshire.
Rep. Messmer elected to assess and provide evidence needed to address the opioid crisis in New Hampshire for her capstone project in support of her degree. Opioid overdose is the second leading cause of death in the state. As a member of the Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs Committee in the State House, RepresentativeMessmer actively participated in legislative efforts to address this crisis in New Hampshire. However, there is only anecdotal evidence to support the effectiveness of the legislative action.
As a scientist legislator in the State House, Rep. Messmer has sponsored legislation to reduce rates of chronic disease and cancer across the state.  This is the kind of work that needs to be done in Washington. Climate change and drinking water issues are the top threats to our National Security but the current administration is not treating them as the serious public health threats they pose.
I am fully supporting Representative Messmer’s run for Congress because, at a time when facts, evidence, and science are under attack from industry, their lobbyists and the Trump Administration, I know this is a threat to public health and we need more scientists in Congress. I have witnessed Mindi’s commitment to her community and tireless advocacy for the families affected by this issue and the residents of the seacoast and the state.
Please join me in supporting Mindi Messmer to replace retiring Carol Shea-Porter for Congress. I know she is exactly the type of Congressperson we need representing us in Washington.
 James E. Zuckerman, M.D.
